If you have a spine then Chiropractic is for you! We see all ages from babies to the very elderly and all walks of life, all wanting to better their health and prevent disease or injury. The bottom line is that removing interference to how our spines operate and allowing proper nerve supply will help just about anything, including our overall physical, mental and emotional state – that means we enjoy life more!

BABIES AND CHILDREN

Many babies and children can benefit from Chiropractic care. The ‘normal’ accidents and injuries of childhood can place unwanted stress on the spine and just like adults, children and babies can experience headaches, back pain or neck discomfort.

Signs of pain can include irritability, head banging, crying when in certain positions and for young children Childrenreporting pain in a specific place. These ailments may be effectively relieved through Chiropractic care. We check and adjust these littlies in a safe, natural and gentle manner.

At Te Awamutu Family Chiropractic, we have built a trust and relationship with our patients that they are willing and wanting to bring their precious babies and children in to get adjusted as well.

TEENAGERS AND YOUNG ADULTS

Teenagers and young adults also need check-ups during times of major growth and development. Sport injuries, a heavy school bag and rapid growth may cause postural compensations. Left unrecognised or untreated, these are likely to become immediate or even lifelong problems.

Headaches, growing pains and even behavioural or learning difficulties may be a symptom of spinal dysfunction or vertebral subluxation.

PREGNANT WOMEN

Pregnancy itself is a major stress on the body and spine. A growing baby and change in hormones can result in torsion of the pelvis and lumbar spine in order to compensate. This torsion constricts baby and can be very painful for mother. In many cases adjusting the spine and pelvis not only relieves the pregnant mum from any pain or discomfort, but also provides the baby more ‘space’ to move within the womb, thus they are more likely to settle into the normal birth position.

The body’s balance and ability to function properly can have a huge impact on its ability to adapt to any extra stresses placed upon it. A common cause of Cesarean in New Zealand is “failure to progress”. Any misalignment in the pelvic outlet could be a cause of slower descent of the baby through the birth canal. Back pain could also decrease a mother’s range of motion making it more difficult for her to assume the upright, active positions that have been proven to make labor more efficient. Proper adjustments can make sure that the hips and pelvis are in proper alignment. Ultimately this also results in fewer interventions such as induction, epidurals, episiotomies and caesarians.

Any woman who has gone through labour would appreciate the importance of that!

ELDERLY

Recent research indicates that baby boomers will reach a greater life expectancy than any previous generation. With greater longevity comes a desire to get more out of life and a higher level of function from their aging bodies.

Baby Boomers are seeking answers which traditional approaches to health can’t answer and are more interested in proactive health (the fence at the top of the cliff) rather than reactive health care (the ambulance at the bottom).

Modern chiropractic care serves this niche perfectly. By improving spinal health, the function of the spine and nervous system, chiropractors are able to assist the body in self healing and optimal performance. Thus our baby boomers are able to enjoy higher energy levels, greater fitness, improved co-ordination and balance.

Even those in their 90s can get relief from aches, pains, headaches and can improve their overall mobility, function and health.

As our general population ages, we can all appreciate the importance of the elderly maintaining their independence.

Degenerative changes in the spine can vary from mild – moderate – severe. Taking x-rays before adjusting, allows us to determine where the degeneration (if any) is within the spine. The degree of degeneration determines what type of technique is best suited to the patient.
